Here's one more... "Are you a fan of your music?" Do you enjoy hearing yourself sing... I know at times I don't like to hear myself and often wonder "if I were to ever hammer out an album that folks by chance loved and listened to frequently, would I even listen to it with that same passion..."

You're going to have to answer this after asking yourself "if I were'nt performing this music as often as I do, would I really get in to it like the ERFlings do"...

i am a fan of my own music. when making it i probably listen to the songs way too much. constantly over and over again. once i release an album i dont play it as much. once and awhile i will pick them up. i prefer to listen to them after ive put some distance between us. that way i can hear it the same way everyone else does, rather than listening to it as the maker of it.
i think you would enjoy your music if you were releasing it.

Also, now that your 7 albums in, and your more Erro the Artist do you find it harder to part with the babies (songs for others)?

more because of time than anything. there are several opportunities that will occur thru the year that i cant be a part of because im touring or working on my project. letting go of a song isnt that tough anymore. i just need time to let go of it. hahahaha..

Do you have aMonthly Chicago set With The Shrine in Chicago?

Can you work on another DVD, por favor?

i dont know if they are gonna do it at shrine anymore. i hope we continue it but i think the promoter needs a new venue. we will see.

as for the dvd i may be a min. atleast its not in the plans right now. but as soon as it is we could probably work it out quickly.

Question: After this year's Soul Summit... do you really see a progression brewing for the awareness or growth of soul music?

Every year i am hopeful. i am pulling for a lot of people in the soul community. artist, managers, promoters, etc... with the economy im sure a lot of people that are truly needed are at a crossroads, but hopefully they can make it thru. but i do see the progression. i see it every year. sometimes slower than other years. but im encouraged.

I can dig that and it makes a great deal of sense...

and was that body blow or a straight jab... lmao... it's actually in the making for real... I had to put some fears aside and to be honest. So many people have been believing me and asking me for so long that I really started to feel like I was disrespecting whatever it is they place in me by not doing it...

this kat i'm working with out of DC named "The Unknown" is sick with it. You'd dig the inspiration he makes. I'm tracks out now, he gave me from the "free" pot and I need and want out of that money pot.

The money pot consist of he and I think two other kats. When I heard that stuff it had me seeing visions of tours... I do still believe in the pot at the end of the rainbow he gave me (27 open tracks in raw/rough that sound better than 86% of the stuff I make myself...)...

I'll spring it on you (all of you all) the closer to completion I get...

Sorry to be dominating the questions folks, but damnit I got questions to ask and i'm awaiting on the answers....

Easy, whats the longest its taken you to write to a track that you really like?

Some of these tracks I got are posing a real challenge for me (I think it has to do with the formatting of the track... wonderful layering, but not all have been broken down to song format at this time). One in particular has a non-standard 3 bar bridge/mini-hook in it. Its so ill (and different) that i'm trying to write to it how it is without having to ask the producer to work it somehow to a 4 bar bridge...

I'm also trying to push what i'm now calling the "Eric Roberson Relentless Continual Song Movement" with it... The way its designed the beat tells you "get emmmm... keep coming at that em non stop till they drop" like a "Tale of Two" did to you...

music that is true to its intentions. true to its passion. distant from compromising limitations. free of titles and labels. created with an authentic connection to what is really surrounding the singer and the listener's lives.

man i still have tracks that i have had for years that i havent written to. but i have every intention to one day. that can happen. a lot of times a track is so dope that i just have to respect it for the piece of art it is. hahahaha.. i wont even write to that joint. well atleast until i have some fire to add to the blaze.
how a track is formatted means a lot. im lucky enough to be at a part in my career where i can get a producer to change everything up. build a repore with the people you are working with so they can trust your vision. most songs you hear from me that i didnt produce, was probably rearranged format wise. nothing wrong with that.

I find myself suffering from that right now... almost like i've become a fan of the beat to a point it's hitting me like jazz and "who needs words with instrumental is so dope"... that's not to say thoughts don't occur though, cause they do but they tend to flood as if i'm in a crowded subway station or something like that...

and good advice... thanks again

I heard that you have a meet & greet with fans after your shows? Is that true?
